Joshua Dedman

Joshua joined SPI in 2020 as Consultant. He works across SPI’s portfolio, providing project management expertise, in-depth research and project delivery.

Joshua has particular expertise in strategic evaluation and impact studies. He has undertaken social, economic and cultural impact evaluations for the European Commission, the British Film Institute (BFI), British Council, the Greater London Authority, as well as for film commissions globally. These evaluations assessed the impact on individuals, organisations, companies, regions, as well as the cultural and creative industries as a whole.

His current work includes leading an economic impact assessment of the Texas screen production sector; sector mapping, data analysis, and strategic advisory for multiple Middle Eastern clients; and a skills assessment of the Western Balkans film and games sector, as well as the UK digital content creator sector. He is also supporting a production capacity assessment of Australia’s screen sector and leading SPI’s contribution to the UK’s national R&D programme, CoSTAR, researching the adoption, use and impact of new technologies in games, film, TV, performance and digital entertainment.

Previously, he delivered economic impact assessments of film production in Brazil, Norway, New Zealand and New Mexico, and production capacity studies for Greater São Paulo, the US State of North Carolina, and the US State of Maine to support international production attraction. His work also includes developing a strategic roadmap for the Philippine film sector, leading a UK-wide skills review study across animation, post-production, VFX, video games, and emerging technologies, and project-managing research and strategy studies for Screen Cornwall, the Arctic Indigenous Film Fund, and the International Sámi Film Institute.

Joshua holds a master’s degree from King’s College London in the Cultural and Creative Industries. Here, he developed a strong grounding in all aspects of research, including quantitative and qualitative research design and analysis. He was previously at BOP Consulting, where he worked across the arts, digital and cultural sectors.

Joshua line manages two team members and leads the company’s marketing, communications, and AI systems development.
