SPI Publishes A Production Infrastructure and Capacity Analysis for Australia’s Screen Production Sector

OlsbergSPI (SPI) has published A Production Infrastructure and Capacity Analysis for Australia’s Screen Production Sector, an in-depth assessment of current capacity across physical production, PDV & animation, and digital games in Australia.

Developed in partnership with Screen Australia, the study provides a comprehensive evaluation of the country’s below-the-line workforce, infrastructure, and services. It covers film, television, documentary, animation, post-production, VFX, digital games, and online content.

The analysis confirms Australia’s reputation as a world-class and trusted destination for high-value production. However, it also identifies several challenges that could affect long-term capacity across the sector. These include limited business scalability, skills gaps, constrained career progression pathways, and pressure on infrastructure.

Screen Australia Chief Operating Officer Grainne Brunsdon said:

“This study not only reaffirms Australia as a world leader in high value production, it also provides specific guidance on how the sector can navigate a dynamic, ever-changing landscape. I’d encourage screen and games leaders to view these findings as a springboard to tackle the challenges of today and seize the opportunities of tomorrow.”
