Filming on the beach in Australia. Project on the Evaluation of the Australian Offsets by Olsberg-Spi.

Client: Motion Picture Association (MPA) and Australia New Zealand Screen Association (ANZSA)

Location: Australia

This expansive 2019 SPI study for the MPA and ANZSA assessed the Australian Screen Sector’s response to challenges posed by the internet. These challenges have resulted in a variety of changes to the sector’s production and distribution models.

The analysis found that the Australian screen sector has responded well and generated important economic contribution to the Australian economy in 2017-18, having generated a total output of A$9.19 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA), representing a 15% increase over 2012-13, and 84,982 total Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) jobs. The TV broadcast sector was a key driver of this success, but the production sector had greater impact on FTE jobs.

The report also estimates that the introduction of a new Location incentive in 2018-19 will drive a projected 26% growth over the next three years in total output associated to production spend.
