Film i Väst Publishes ‘Public Film Funding at a Crossroads Report’; with Contribution from SPI

Film i Väst Analysis today launches Public Film Funding at a Crossroads at the European Co-Production Forum in Brussels. The report assesses the future relevance of public film funding in Europe – particularly selective film finance.

Over 700 interviews with key stakeholders in Europe’s film and audiovisual sectors were conducted as part of the study, with a range of study collaborators assessing different European regions. SPI undertook the UK element of the research, completing consultations with sector experts across the value chain.

The report comes in response to paradigm shifts in the film sector, and examines how these changes could affect the future of public film funding.

One of the key conclusions of the overall report is that “there must be a smarter collaboration between the public and the private sectors, reconsider the role of the cinemas, as well as investigate diversity and inclusion. It’s urgent to cut the bureaucracy and come to quicker decisions”.
